Psychiatric Care & Medication Management
Psychiatric care at Shrinkty is a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation followed by ongoing medication management for teens and adults ages 13 and up. It's for anyone facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or other mental health conditions in Tennessee — by telehealth statewide or in person in Murfreesboro, McMinnville, and Dickson.
A comprehensive first evaluation
Good psychiatric care starts with really understanding you. Your first appointment is a thorough evaluation: your provider takes time to go through your history, your current symptoms, what you've tried before, and what you want out of treatment.
At the end of the evaluation, your provider discusses their diagnostic impression with you openly — what they think is going on, why, and what your options are. You leave the appointment with a plan you helped shape, not just a prescription.
Ongoing medication management
If medication is part of your plan, your provider prescribes it and sends it electronically to your preferred pharmacy — usually before you've left the appointment.
From there, care is a partnership. Regular follow-up visits let your provider see how a medication is working, watch for side effects, and adjust the dose or the medication itself as needed. Follow-ups are available by telehealth or in the office, whichever fits your life.
When medications are hard to get right
Everyone responds to psychiatric medications a little differently. If you've tried medications that didn't work or caused side effects, GeneSight® genetic testing — a simple cheek swab done during a visit — can show how your genes may affect your response to common psychiatric medications and help guide your provider's choices.
For adults whose depression hasn't responded adequately to standard antidepressants, we also offer Spravato® (esketamine) treatment in our offices.

How long is a psychiatric evaluation?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation and is scheduled as a longer visit than a routine follow-up. Your provider reviews your history, current symptoms, past treatments, and goals, then discusses their diagnostic impression and options with you. You leave with a treatment plan — and, if medication is part of it, a prescription sent to your pharmacy.
Can I get prescriptions through telehealth?
Yes. Prescriptions from telehealth visits are sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy, just as they are after office visits. Shrinkty providers see telehealth patients anywhere in Tennessee. Certain medications carry extra requirements under state or federal rules; if any apply to your treatment, your provider will explain them during your visit.
How often are follow-up appointments?
It depends on where you are in treatment. Follow-ups are usually closer together when you're starting or adjusting a medication, so your provider can track how it's working and watch for side effects, then spaced further apart once you're stable. Visits are available by telehealth or in person at any of our three offices.
